My Katy Kat got married yesterday. MARRIED!
Our boarder is no longer a fourth mouth to feed in this house. She’s a wife to Nick. I’m happy for them. I genuinely believe they’ve got as good a shot at happiness in this life as anyone could.
It was a wedding, so all the typical family drama played out over the past few months. Emotions that can usually be smoothed over somehow find their way to the surface. But that’s just the way it goes.
For the rehearsal, Jackson the ring bearer, had the.best.shirt. in the history of ring bearer shirts. ever!
Things started out just fine. Jackson and his cousin Paige, the flower girl were going through their assigned roles.
Then out of nowhere Jackson, the biggest stage ham you’ve ever seen, was absolutely seized by stage fright. He broke down into a terrified sob like I have never seen from him. He just kept saying, “There are too much people! There are too much people!”
We tried everything to comfort him: hugs, gum, reassurance, bribes… nothing was working. That boy was in a bad way.
By Saturday morning, odds were 80-20, he wasn’t going down that aisle. I told him he didn’t have to. But he WAS putting on his suit and having his photo made with everyone else. He agreed.
There are a lot of people to thank for this wedding. So many people took time out of their lives to travel to LIttle Rock to celebrate with Katlyn and Nick. Friends and family worked hard to create lovely showers, parties and wonderful memories for this couple.
Many on my own friends went out of their way to be kind to me. By family tree, Katlyn is my cousin. But she’s always been a lot more than that in our family. There’s not a word to describe our relationship, but my friends knew this was a big deal emotionally for me, too.
I’m so grateful for all their support, calls, texts, hugs, cards and actual back labor during this event. My village continues to amaze me. I do not deserve you.
