Camp Case, Poop Cake, Ninjas and Seven Years

I have a tendency to go a bit nuts when it comes to birthday parties, especially for my kid. This year, Jackson’s birthday falls the day before Katlyn’s wedding. That’s a lot of celebrating all at once, so we moved his celebration up a few weeks to keep things a bit more sane.

Also this year I promised, I pinky swore really, that I would scale things back. That almost happened.

I gave Jackson three party options I was willing to throw. He chose a sleep over. So we invited a few boys to spend the night at Camp Case for his 7th birthday. It was a bit nuts.

They were the slightest bit excited about the sleepover.

For the first time in his life, I made the child a birthday cake. It was supposed to look like a camp fire on top. But it sorta looked like a poop cake. Next year, I'm just going back to the bakery.

This is what happens when you ask a 7 year-old boy to "look cute" with his poop cake.

Finally, they all fell asleep about 11:30 p.m. But don't worry, they were up by 5 a.m.

It didn’t really seem fair to inflict wild boys on grandparents, so we invited them to lunch the following day. Since it was a whole different group, that meant a different theme, food and decorations.

See, we totally scaled back this year. Instead of one enormous party, we had two small ones. It sorta worked.

I can’t help myself. I just really love parties with themes.
