Our Katy Kat is officially a graduate. She holds a Masters in Social Work. We went to her hooding ceremony last week. I was so proud my heart nearly burst open.
She graduated in five years with two degrees. That’s not shabby at all. I took five years to get my first degree.
The notion of a person doing things all on her own is bollocks. Everyone has help. No one gets by without a village. Katy’s village is magnificent: family, friends, fiancé, professors, classmates, professional mentors, church members and so many more. An amazing group of people, in big ways and small, made all of it possible.
But in the end, no matter how fabulous her support system, it was up to her to do the work and earn the degrees. She went to class and internships, learned the material, wrote the papers, worked with clients and demonstrated to all the necessary people she is ready to be a social worker.
Way to go, girl! By the way, your free rent situation here ends June 29.
